About clinical trials

——————————————————————————

Metro-MN CCOP — a link to advances in cancer research
The CCOP gives people in your community access to National Cancer Institute (NCI) and pharmaceutical research studies.  These research studies, called clinical trials, look for new or better ways to prevent, detect, or treat cancer.  The standard approaches now being used in cancer were first found to be effective through clinical trials.

Reasons why people take part in clinical trials
  • To receive a new treatment for their cancer, which may be better than the current approach.
  • To participate in new methods to prevent, detect, or manage symptoms related to the disease or treatment of their cancer.
  • To receive ongoing, lifetime monitoring of health status.
  • To contribute to the medical knowledge of cancer for future generations.

Current research opportunities

——————————————————————————

Cancer treatment
There are always multiple clinical trials ongoing for the treatment of most cancers.

Prevention & early detection of cancer
If you have cancer, chances are that your family members may have concerns about their risk of developing cancer. There are studies looking at ways to prevent certain types of cancer from developing or to detect cancer earlier.

Symptom management
There are a variety of studies looking at ways to better control or prevent the symptoms of cancer or your treatment.   Examples include nausea, mouth sores, fatigue, anorexia.

What you can do
The Metro-Minnesota CCOP is a non-profit program funded by grants and financial contributions from individuals and groups.  We welcome your interest in our work and would be pleased to answer questions you may have.  If you would like further information about the CCOP or any of the research opportunities available to you, email jennik@parknicollet.com or call 952-993-1517.
